Do you love to laugh? I do! I love jokes, comedy, and being silly. I enjoy laughing at the unexpected things in life. I don’t think a day goes by in my house without a ton of laughter, so I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that there was a whole day devoted to laughter! How cool is that?
Global Belly Laugh Day, January 24 according to Belly Laugh Day Founder Elaine Helle is about celebrating with “the people in your life past and present, who laugh with you and help you laugh and smile… and remembering the strange, funny, ‘now I can laugh at it’ moments.” (source)
On January 24, at 1:24 pm your time, celebrate with me by enjoying some laughter, either with your friends and loved ones or by yourself. In honor of Global Belly Laugh Day, I’m going to share a funny story with you. I have to admit that at the time this happened, it wasn’t very funny, but it has since become one of our family’s favorite stories to tell.
Shortly after baby #3 was born, I had to go back to school so she was at a daycare for most of the day. Because of this, she soon decided that she wanted no more of nursing and became fully bottle fed. Well one night, she awoke as normal for her midnight snack, and it was my husband’s turn to make the bottle. I pulled her into bed with me as he stumbled out, half asleep to the kitchen and returned a couple minutes later, handed me the bottle, and got back into bed. I began feeding her the bottle, but it wasn’t going well. She kept sounding like she was choking on it and just having an all-around tough time, which wasn’t normal at all. I held the bottle up and it looked black, but I couldn’t tell for sure because the light was off. I started freaking out just a little bit and asked my husband what he put in the bottle. After some (ahem) arguing about him insisting it was formula and me insisting it wasn’t because formula wasn’t black, he got up and turned on the light. Lo and behold, the bottle was filled with a grainy, black substance! No wonder my poor baby was having a hard time drinking it! Turns out, my husband had not turned on the light in the kitchen, and what he thought was the can of formula was actually a can full of coffee grounds! Needless to say, neither of us got much sleep that night because our sweet baby had managed to drink enough of it to make her not want anything to do with sleep! Even funnier is the fact that now, 5 years later, she LOVES coffee, and will sneak it from our cups if we aren’t paying attention.
We definitely weren’t laughing about it that night, but I have to admit it is pretty funny! My husband sure learned his lesson about not making bottles in the dark anymore.
I hope this story made you laugh, or at the very least brought a smile to your face. I would love for you to share in the comments a funny story or a joke of your own (family friendly, please).
