Outta nowhere, there's a split, a big ol' schism! This break up was dubbed "The Great Schism" or "East-West Schism," and it's as dramatic as it sounds. So, like a soap opera but with more incense and Latin, the Roman Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Church decided to part ways in 1054. Talk about a divine separation!
