Happy New Year everyone! Last year was such an amazing year for myself and my family. We welcomed a new baby into our home, I started this blog, and started my Essential Oil business. I am looking forward to all the great things 2015 will have in store!

Do you make New Year’s Resolutions? I always do, although in the past I have never completely achieved them all. That’s ok, because at least I am working on them and working on improving myself and my relationships. Here are my 2015 New Year’s Resolutions. If you made any, I would love to hear about them in the comments.

  • Read my Bible first thing every morning–I know when I do this, I feel so much more prepared to tackle anything the day has for me. Plus, God deserves my attentions first. I know with 5 children there are some days where I will have to hit the ground running and get to my Bible reading when I can, but my goal is to meet with God before anything else.
  • Memorize 4 verses per month. I will be posting them here on the blog the first of every month, so you can print them out and memorize along with me.

  • Work-Out 3x’s a week
  • Lose 30 pounds–I really want to lose about 60 pounds, but I want to lose it and keep it off, so I am starting with just 30.

  • Read 12 chapter books out loud to my kiddos, in addition to our school work. I love cuddling on the couch and reading to my children. Not only is it a great bonding time, but it instills in them a love of reading.
  • Family game night 2 times a month. This specific resolution was made with my older children in mind. They love playing games but sometimes it is hard with toddlers and babies, so I am going to be intentional this year about setting aside time just for this. If it’s important to my children, it should be important to me.
  • Go on 4 mommy dates with each child this year.

  • Read “The Five Love Languages” with my husband.
  • Write my husband a love note each week.

Blogging & Business

  • Write 3 blog posts per week. I would like to do 5, but I realize I am a busy home schooling mom, so I will shoot for 3.
  • Write 2 essential oil posts per month, highlighting the benefits of a specific oil.
  • Set-up and stick to a social media posting schedule.
  • Help 4 people to start their own essential oils business. If you are interested in learning more about essential oils and how you can turn it into a business, Contact Me. Even if you don’t want to start a business but are interested in learning more about how they can benefit your family, let me know. I would love to help you get started!

I know this is a lot of goals, but I have a whole year to complete them. I love the quote, “Shoot for the moon, and even if you miss, you will land among the stars.” As long as I work towards these goals, I will have grown from the person I am today.

Now for the Bible verses. I will be printing these out and hanging them around my house so I can memorize them all month. I would love for you to join me in Bible memorization this year. Leave a comment if you are going to be memorizing these verses, or even if you have different ones in mind. I’d love to hear about your progress! The Bible tells us to hide God’s Word in our heart, and I believe memorizing is a great way to do that.

The first verse is:

VisionThis verse is why I make goals every year. If you don’t have a vision, you won’t grow, and if you don’t grow, you will perish.

The second verse is:

2CorI love the new year, because it signifies a new start. Even if last year wasn’t so great for you, it is gone! It’s in the past. It’s a new year, time for new things! And I love that when I let Jesus into my heart, He changed me in ways I didn’t think were possible. I am truly a new creation, and I am so thankful He died on the cross for me.

The third verse (actually set of verses) is:

Prov31-1The Proverbs 31 woman is a great example of a wife and mother. Each month I will be memorizing more of this passage and trying to incorporate her character into my life.

The fourth verse is Isaiah 40:28. I love this verse because it portrays how amazing our Creator God is. He doesn’t faint or grow weary. He is always there for us. (I accidentally deleted this file on my computer this morning, but luckily I still have the printable version, so you can see it there.)

I am so happy to have you as a reader! I’d love to hear about your resolutions or your Bible memorization in the comments. And I would love for you to subscribe to my weekly newsletter so you don’t miss anything.

Queens Homeschooling Cyber Monday Sale

Queens Homeschooling is having a HUGE Cyber Monday sale today! In fact, it is the biggest sale they have ever had to date. All e-books are 30% off! And they are already such great prices, so you can get lots of good, quality materials for dirt cheap.

I love this company. I have used their materials in our home school, and also as character building for my children. Last Christmas I got my teenage daughter a character training study about Modesty that we worked on together. I wasn’t raised a Christian, so much of this stuff was new to me and very valuable. And it was a great time for my daughter and I to spend together. They also have studies on Purity, Courtship, and Manners.

My son and my husband really enjoy the Little Leaders books. They have recently read the Guarding My Eyes book for young boys together. It was enjoyable and easy to understand, and I appreciate the fact that it is building up my little man to be a great husband and father one day. They also have Little Ladies books with topics such as modesty and purity but aimed at a younger audience than the study that my older daughter and I did.

There are also many home school resources, in the Charlotte Mason style of education, which I love. You can find just about any topic here. I haven’t used the science or history yet, but the Discovering Nature and Science series looks very thorough for young children, and the Living History Readers look like something we could get very interested in. I’m planning on trying them out during this sale! Other topics include Geography, Math, Nature Study, Copywork, and Natural Health. I love the fact that everything is from a Christian and creation worldview.

Click the banner below to be taken the sale page. Check it out, look around. Even if you don’t home school, I’m sure there is something you can use with your family. I wouldn’t let this great sale go by if I were you!

GrapeVine Bible Studies

I love Christmas. I love the lights, the decorations, the music, the food. But most of all I love hearing the story of the birth of my Saviour, Jesus Christ. I love reading about the faith of Mary and Joseph, the birth of Jesus in the manger, the gifts of the wise men, and every other detail of this most miraculous event in history.

What better way to kick of the holiday season than with a Bible Study for you and your children to complete about the birth of Jesus? I am so excited to be able to partner with Grape Vine Bible studies and be able to share this great Christian resource with you.

Grape Vine Bible Studies has stick-figure Bible lessons that will engage your child in a unique way. There are 2 levels for the Birth of Jesus study–Beginner, for ages 3 and up, and Elementary, for older children. I am excited to do this study with my children this year. I really appreciate that you can use any version of the Bible you choose to do this study, so it should work in any family. And you can get either print versions or e-book versions. This company really makes it easy to share the Good News with your children!

Check it out and see if it is something that will work for your family. I’m sure it will be such a blessing to mine!

Click here to be taken to the ordering page.

If you end up doing this study with your family, come back here and let me know how you liked it. There are lots of other resources there as well that I am excited to try after the holidays.

Showers of Prayers

Today definitely started out as one of those mornings. You know the ones. When the day seems to start without you and you hit the ground running. Not my favorite way to start. The best mornings are the ones where I’m up at least a little while before the children and I can relax, wake-up slow, and spend some time with God. A good friend of mine has a plaque in her bathroom that reads “A Day Hemmed In Prayer Rarely Unravels.” I have found that to be true in my life. When I don’t get to spend some time alone with God in the morning, I feel like I’m chasing a ball of yarn the rest of the day.

And so it went today. My husband left early for the gym and all my little’s climbed in bed with me, so instead of getting up I just cuddled around them for a while. But then I lost track of the time, and we had to rush through breakfast and getting ready because I had appointments to get to. So no Bible time. No prayer. I could feel myself getting frustrated and overwhelmed.

I was getting myself ready and I just started praying in the shower. A completely unconventional place to pray, but it’s what I had. I stood there in the shower, pouring my heart out to God, praying for my family members and their days, for my friends, for my schedule. It felt right. It felt like I was back on track and I could handle the day. I know I should definitely have a time set apart for prayer, but that doesn’t mean God won’t hear me if I talk to Him on the fly. The Bible says we are to “pray without ceasing.” To me, that means that we should always have a place in our hearts open to talk to Him throughout the day. He’s my best friend. I can call Him up whenever I want to chat and He will always be happy to hear from me and He will always have time. Even when I’m in the shower.

What are some of the unconventional places or times you have prayed?

I am looking forward to reading so many of these books, especially the ones in the Christian Classics Series! I tried to read Pilgrims Progress a few years ago in the original English, and let’s just say I never finished it. Props to all of you have read it and hung in there! But this version is in modern English which I am excited about reading aloud to my children.

You’ll notice in the Children’s Collection, there is a picture of a bunch of cd’s. I can’t wait to listen to all those Bible songs and scripture with my children. I notice that my children memorize anything easier when it is set to music. What a great way to hide God’s Word in their heart! You will be getting all those in mp3 format, so you could put them on any device and even listen on the go.

Even men will find something they like here. There is a whole Business and Personal Finance Collection (not just for men, but I know it’s something my husband will be interested in), and some of the books in the Marriage Collection are written specifically to husbands. There really is something here for the whole family, and it is sure to be a collection your family will cherish for years to come.

If you were to buy all of these separately, the cost would be over $1141! I don’t know about you, but that is just a bit out of budget for my family. But if you buy this collection during the sale, it will cost you a whopping $34.95! Such an amazing deal! But be sure to order as soon as the sale starts, because quantities are limited. In order to get an email when the sale goes live, click the banner box in the sidebar of this blog, and let them know to notify you. You can also click any of the boxes below if you are on a mobile device and can’t see my sidebar. And don’t worry, I will be posting here as soon as the sale goes live with a link to order, as well. So check out all the books, I’m sure there is something that will appeal to you. Even if there’s only one or two from each category that grab your eye, you still can’t beat this price!
