I have a confession: even though I learned about compression socks in school, my first thought was how ugly they are. Thankfully, there has been *some* progress made in the last decade; there’s been even more these last few weeks.
Compression socks & your health
Good health is something that we all want. One simple thing we can do to improve or maintain our lifestyle is to wear compression socks. Why?
Compression socks help with:
- swelling in your legs
- pain or aches in your legs
- preventing blood clots
- prevent other complications of chronic diseases like diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis
There are several different types of compression available, depending on the level of compression and support you want. Generally speaking, you’ll notice more results with a tighter compression sock. Tighter compression socks have a higher pressure rating (higher number in mmHg).
Compression socks: not just for patients
Thanks to the benefits of compression socks, they aren’t just for hospital patients any more. Many athletes (or us wannabes) have noticed significant benefits from wearing compression socks, too.
While exercising, the extra compression improves circulation. WIth better circulation, muscles fatigue less quickly and overall performance is improved. Recovery time is faster, too, with compression socks. After a workout, wearing compression socks for as little as a few hours can speed up recovery and minimize workout pain.
Compression socks and fashion
With all of these health benefits, I’m kind of surprised that it took almost a decade for people to realize that these socks should look good, too. There are more and more fashion compression socks becoming available in the lower pressure ratings, like the easy daily wear 15-20 mmHg range.
For those of us who want true, all-day 20-30 mmHg support, though, the options have mostly been limited to ugly medical socks or expensive performance athletic socks. I’ve been working on another option: why can’t we have great looking socks for a reasonable price?
Cute Compression Socks
There’s finally a new option that’s affordable and fashionable. Cute Compression Socks are gaining momentum through a Kickstarter campaign and will be available soon. We will add more designs and colors as we receive additional support.
